Following Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, PSG fans clashed with French riot police on Sunday and 148 people have been arrested so far. Sixteen police officers were also injured in the clash, reports said.

Hundreds of others were also fined by the police for not adhering to social distancing norms and the rule requiring them to wear masks amid COVID-19 risks. The police have not released estimates on injured fans.

First-time Champions League finalists PSG were defeated by Bayern Munich 1-0 with the lone goal from Kingsley Coman in the 59th minute during Sunday’s final. PSG would have been only the second French club after Marseille to win the Champions League title had they won.

Marseille won the title in 1993. PSG’s loss was reportedly met with huge celebrations in Marseille, where fans cheered and lit fireworks.

Riot police are said to have entered a bar close to the Champs-Élysées to remove people for not wearing masks or not following distancing norms. Police even resorted to using tear gas to disperse fans outside Parc des Princes, the PSG stadium.

The measures were put in place after fans poured into the Champs-Élysées without masks and not adhering to social distancing norms to celebrate PSG reaching the Champions League final.
